Developing Integrated Monitoring and Modeling Programs for Mercury in the Chesapeake Bay Region
October 2, 2007 - October 4, 2007The STAC and NOAA funded workshop provided a forum for regional, national, and international researchers, modelers, and regional state agency representatives to assess and evaluate current monitoring and modeling programs for reducing one of the Chesapeake Bay?s more persistent, bioaccumulative toxins: Mercury. Experts put forth recommendations to better coordinate existing mercury monitoring programs and to address current management needs. In addition, workshop participants outlined initial steps for developing the first ecosystem based model for mercury accumulation in the Chesapeake Bay region. A summary of the workshop and its recommendations will be available in a STAC brochure shortly.
