Gene Yagow is a Senior Research Scientist in the Biological Systems Engineering Department and is part of the Center for Watershed Studies at Virginia Tech, where he also received his PhD. Gene has over 30 years of experience in agricultural nonpoint source (NPS) pollution control, computer modeling, and development of tools and databases to facilitate NPS modeling, including state-wide watershed NPS assessments for Virginia. Since 1999, he has been involved with characterizing water quality impaired streams and their pollutant sources through geographic information system (GIS) and other data analyses, computer modeling studies, and implementation plan development related to EPA's total maximum daily load (TMDL) program. He has been working since 2009 to assist the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in defining improved metrics and protocols to provide Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund grantees feedback to help ensure successful project implementation and to improve the consistency and breadth of NFWF's internal accountability metrics.
