From November 5th to November 9th, scientists, managers, students, and professionals from across disciplines will come together in Providence, RI to discuss marine and coastal issues. The biennial conference hosted by the Coastal & Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) is called “Coastal Science at the Inflection Point: Celebrating Successes & Learning from Challenges.” This year marks the 24th conference and will include 1,500 attendees from around the world and across professions.

Scientists and professors from CRC-member institutions will be contributing to the conference. For example, Dr. Kenny Rose, a scientist in the Horn Point Laboratory, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, will be a plenary speaker in a session on Tuesday called “Food Webs and Fisheries.” His research focuses on using mathematical and computer simulation modeling to predict and better understand fish population and food web dynamics in estuaries, lakes, reservoirs, and oceans..

In addition, there will be over 150 presentations about the Chesapeake Bay throughout the conference. This includes the following Chesapeake-specific sessions:

  • Inflection Point in Chesapeake Science: Retrospective Contributions, Prospective Opportunities, on Monday November 6th, led by a team of scientists from the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science
  • Influence of the Conowingo Pond on Chesapeake Bay Water Quality, also on Monday, November 6th
  • Climate Change in the Chesapeake and Other Coastal Systems, on Wednesday, November 8th
