The Chesapeake Bay Program’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) is administered by the CRC and funded through a cooperative agreement with the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) Partnership – currently spanning the period 2016-2022.  The CRC has had a long-standing role of administering all activities of STAC, an active committee with 38 members from academic and scientific institutions around the watershed.

 

STAC will hold its third quarterly meeting of FY19 on December 18-19, 2019, at a location to be determined. More information will be made available on the December meeting webpage.

STAC will be hosting four workshops in FY2019, listed here in order of anticipated date. Planning is underway for all of these activities. Information regarding recent workshops- including agendas, presentations, and reports (as they become available) can be found on the workshop homepage.

1) Targeting Non-Point Source BMP Implementation—November 12-13, 2019

2) Satellite Image Integration for the Chesapeake Bay SAV Monitoring Program—Session 2 in December, 2019

3) Linking In-Field and Edge-of-Field Management to Soil and Watershed Health—January 23-24, 2020

4) Incorporating Freshwater Mussels in the Chesapeake Bay Partnership—March 5-6, 2020

“Understanding and Explaining 30+ Years of Water Clarity Trends in the Bay’s Tidal Waters” 

On August 9, 2019 STAC released a report titled Understanding and Explaining 30+ Years of Water Clarity Trends in the Bay’s Tidal Waters that summarizes the two-part workshop held in February and May of 2017. 

“Revisiting Coastal Land-Water Interactions: The Triblet Connection”. On September 23, 2019, STAC released a report titled Revisiting Coastal Land-Water Interactions: The Triblet Connection that summarizes the May 2018 STAC Workshop.

“Microplastics in the Chesapeake Bay and its Watershed: State of the Knowledge, Data Gaps, and Relationship to Management Goals”

On October 9, 2019 STAC released the report titled Microplastics in the Chesapeake Bay and its Watershed: State of the Knowledge, Data Gaps, and Relationship to Management Goals that summarizes an April 2019 STAC Workshop.

 

Several workshop steering committees are in the process of drafting activity reports and other workshop outcomes that will be distributed to the Partnership over the next few months.  More information on recent workshop reports can be found on the STAC past workshops webpage.

The STAC website underwent a major redesign, thanks to Green Fin Studio. The new website improves user interface, incorporates a modern design scheme and adds new functions to the STAC website to improve user experience.
