The Future of C-StREAM:  Seeking Additional Funders and Mentors for 2020

As the CRC and our partners wind up our 2019 summer internship programs, we have already begun thinking about 2020. Toward that end, I encourage ALL newsletter readers to please think about how they might assist with this this important program. Possible means include:

  • If you work for a government agency or NGO, think about whether your institution has (or could develop) a summer internship program. If one already exists, ask whether it is already participating in C-StREAM. If you think there is any potential for your organization to support a C-StREAM intern, please contact the CRC Director.
  • If you work at an academic institution (whether or not it is a member of the CRC), find out if there is a “Chesapeake-relevant” NSF REU “site” program at your school. If your school has a program that is not already coordinating with CRC’s C-StREAM program, please contact the CRC Director and help us get in touch with the right person. If your school does not have such a program, consider working with colleagues to get one funded! (The CRC can perhaps help with the proposal.)
  • Help us fund and find a Program Manager for C-StREAM and fund and find more Fellows. In this regard, our “C-StREAM concept document” is a proposal waiting to be funded, once we identify the appropriate sources among private foundations, NGO, or government agency program. So please:
    1. Contact the CRC Director if you know of a funding source or can help us with our proposal, or
    2. Consider making a personal donation. (We are a 501(c) non-profit organization and are establishing a special account fund toward this cause.)
  • Finally, please be aware that we will be continuing to work with the USEPA CBPO, the NOAA CBP, IMET, Maryland Sea Grant, ODU, UMES, and VIMS to integrate C-StREAM students into their summer internship programs and that we will be working in Fall of 2019 with representatives from each institution to refine our processes and increase the synergy.
If interested in participating in these discussions, please contact the CRC Director.

In short…on ever onward! We very much welcome your help as we continue to grow and improve the program.
