Chesapeake Bay Program Winter 2020 Update

Relocation of the Chesapeake Bay Program

The Chesapeake Bay Program, consisting of the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office, Environmental Protection Agency Chesapeake Bay Program Office, federal employees from the U.S. Forest Service and supporting grantees and contractors, will move to 1750 Forest Drive, Annapolis, Maryland later on this year. The space is currently being designed to best fit our needs and a move date will be announced soon. The Bay Program has been located at 410 Severn Avenue in Annapolis since the 1980s.

2018-19 Bay Barometer

The 2018-19 Bay Barometer has a tentative release date of March 10, 2020. The report will have a different look and feel, highlighting some of the Chesapeake Bay Program’s notable activities over the past year, in addition to seven updated indicators (SAV, protected lands, blue crab management, blue crab abundance, oysters, public access and 2017 and 2025 Watershed Implementation Plans).

Local Engagement Strategy

In May 2019, the Chesapeake Bay Program Management Board approved a Local Engagement Strategy, which presents a road map for engagement with local government leaders. The strategy defines the roles of different players involved and articulates a mechanism for creation and delivery of messages that both meet CBP needs and relate to local government priorities. An informal local engagement action team has been formed to discuss initial results and next steps. In December 2019, the team created a plan for conducting a comprehensive assessment of ‘local engagement’ needs and existing resources. This plan is currently under review and will eventually be embedded into the Strategy Review System.
