The Chesapeake Community Modeling Program (CCMP) is gearing up for the 2018 Chesapeake Research and Modeling Symposium (ChesRMS18), which takes place June 12th through the 14th at the Crowne Plaza in Annapolis, Maryland. Here is a complete guide to everything you need to know about the conference:

Registration: Registration is still open! Just make an account through our registration site, and you’re on your way.

Cost: $240 ($120 for students)

Schedule: A detailed schedule is now available for each day of the symposium! Check it out to get all the details on who’s presenting in the afternoon special sessions. We will be updating the schedules almost daily as we add new information so please check back often.  Schedules are viewable from the symposium website or right here: DAY1 | DAY2 | DAY3 

Venue: Crowne Plaza Annapolis. Reservations for overnight accommodations: Call Sales Coordinator Christa Bauer at 410-266-3131 ext 181. We have reserved a block of rooms for overnight guests at a rate of $119 per night. When you call, please mention that you are with Chesapeake Research Consortium or say the name or date of the event to receive this rate.

Posters: We are still accepting abstracts for poster presentations through May.  As an added incentive, those submitting a poster can register at the “early-bird” rate of $200 ($110 for students)! Choose the “Pay by check or by credit card over the phone” option when you register. When you call in to pay, indicate that you submitted a poster abstract to get the discount. Plenaries: We will have three fantastic plenary speakers on the morning of June 12th:

  • Rich Batiuk, EPA- “Three Decades of Using Science as the Foundation for Collaborative Bay and Watershed Restoration Decision-making—a Behind the Scenes Look at How the Partnership Works”
  • Marjorie Friedrichs, VIMS- “Shallow Water Management Models for Chesapeake Bay”
  • Jason Fleming, Seahorse Coastal- “Real Time ADCIRC Modelling for Coastal Zone Decision Support”

Panels: We will have two panels on the morning of June 13th featuring a range of speakers:

  • Panel 1 –  “Research to Address Contaminants of Emerging and Increasing Concern for the Chesapeake Region” will be moderated by Scott Phillips (USGS).  Panelists will be: Greg Allen (US EPA CBPO), Vicki Blazer (USGS), Lee Blaney (UMBC), and Heather Gall (Penn State).
  • Panel 2 – “Seagrass Recovery in Chesapeake Bay: A Success Story for Chesapeake Bay Research and Restoration” will be moderated by Larry Sanford (UMCES). Panelists will be: Bill Dennison (UMCES), JJ Orth (VIMS), Cassie Gurbisz (St. Mary’s College of MD), and Jonathan Lefcheck (Bigelow Lab for Ocean Sciences).

Student Travel: If you are a student attending the Chesapeake Research and Modeling Symposium 2018 AND are giving a presentation or poster, there are funds available to reimburse a portion of your travel costs (mileage and hotel).  The Chesapeake Research Consortium has received funds from the National Science Foundation to support student travel.  Qualifying students will be eligible for reimbursement for travel expenses up to $300.00. After you have registered for the symposium and have submitted your abstract (we are now only accepting abstracts for posters), please contact Matthew Trommatter (trommatterm [at] chesapeake.org, (410) 798-1283) to obtain a reimbursement form.
