Bio : Briana Yancy joined CRC as staff for the Chesapeake Bay Program office in Feb 2021. Her main focus is to support and coordinate the Chesapeake Bay Program’s diversity workgroup activities that work to advance diversity, equity, justice and inclusion (DEIJ) initiatives. In 2019, Briana graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a Bachelors of Science in Geography and Environmental Science and a minor in Psychology, Briana is now pursuing her master’s degree in Biology online from Miami University. It is her goal to help promote coastal ecosystem conservation through research and community engagement. Briana recently completed a one year term through the Chesapeake Conservation Corps, working with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, where she monitored submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) and helped develop training and outreach materials for the Chesapeake Bay SAV Watchers program. Prior, Briana spent her time in undergrad researching the habitat characteristics of the critically endangered Bahama Oriole as well as interning with other regional environmental organizations, including the Patuxent Wildlife Research Refuge, Salisbury Zoological Park, and the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Briana is excited to join the diversity workgroup and help make access to the environmental resources more equitable for low income and traditionally unrepressed communities as she is passionate about conservation and believes that the best way to protect vulnerable ecosystems is to help everyone find their connection to nature.  In her spare time, Briana enjoys reading, painting, kayaking, and spending time with her dogs.
