Bio : Christina Garvey joined the Chesapeake Research Consortium in 2024, as a Sustainable Fisheries Goal Implementation Team Staffer. As a staffer, Christina is responsible for supporting the CBP’s Sustainable Fisheries Goal Implementation Team (Fish GIT), which enhances cross-jurisdictional, ecosystem-based fisheries management in the Chesapeake Bay and uses science to inform management decisions. She'll be sitting at the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office supporting the Fish GIT in coordinating existing outcomes (oyster restoration, blue crab abundance, forage, and fish habitat) and developing revised outcomes as part of the Beyond 2025 process. She'll also be working to engage tribal communities and convening discussions on key fishery issues such as invasive catfish and changing climate conditions. Christina is a 2020 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Policy. In 2023, Christina completed her Master of Arts degree in Human Geography at San Diego State University where she studied the cultural values coastal communities share with local marine resources. Prior to joining CRC, Christina worked as a CCC’er with the National Aquarium’s Conservation Team and held internships at the National Science Foundation where she used remote sensing to identify blue whale occurrence, as well as with the National Aquarium working with their Education and Outreach teams. Christina is a Maryland native whose passion for the Bay and for the ocean blossomed during summers spent on the water. When not busy at CRC, Christina enjoys painting, traveling, surfing, hiking, reading, spending time with friends and family, and going to the beach whenever possible!
