Gabriel Duran
Location : Chesapeake Bay Program Offices Position : Environmental Management Staffer - Scientific, Technical Assessment, and Reporting Team (STAR) Email : gduran@chesapeakebay.net Bio : Gabriel Duran joined the Chesapeake Research Consortium in July 2024 as an Environmental Management Staffer for the Scientific, Technical Assessment, and Reporting (STAR) team. In this position, Gabriel supports the Modeling Workgroup, the Integrated Trends Analysis Team, the Status and Trends Workgroup, and the Nontidal Network Workgroup. He assists these teams with coordination, communication and tracking of the team’s goals. Gabriel completed his Bachelor of Science in Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). During his MSc at the Université du Québec
À Montréal (UQÀM), Gabriel studied carbon balances within boreal watersheds in northern Québec. Gabriel actively participates in DEI initiatives where in 2021, he helped co-found the Unlearning Racism in Geoscience (URGE) program which brought together close to 4000 geoscientists to develop antiracist policies that improve accessibility, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the geosciences.
Gabriel is passionate about being outdoors and engaging with young scientists curious about nature. He likes to spend his time mentoring and volunteering in different capacities, from community clean-ups to mentoring undergraduates in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska. But his top favorite activity is spending time with his cat.
