Tom Butler
Location : Chesapeake Bay Program Offices Position : Environmental Management Staffer - Science, Technical Assessment and Reporting Team Email : tbutler@chesapeakebay.net Bio : My name is Thomas Butler. I grew up on a dairy farm in central Maryland and have always been interested in science, conservation, and resource management.
In 2014 I completed an undergraduate degree from Cornell University, with a major in Natural Resources Management. After graduating, I had the opportunity to work for NOAA as a fisheries observer and the Horn Point Hatchery as an assistant growing, feeding, and grading oysters. After gaining experience in these fields, I recognized the value of technology in solving the problems humans face when it comes to resource management. This motivated me to pursue a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. My research experiences are comprised of both hands-on and synthetic data utilization. Numerical modeling has been one of my primary tools for understanding the interactions between humans and their environment.
As a native of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, I have a passion for connecting those interested in science with the proper resources to answer whatever questions they might have. In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as sailing and hiking with my dogs.
