The collection of “Recent CRC Community Publications” (RCCP)   is intended as a service to CRC members and partners for identifying and exploring Chesapeake-related scientific contributions in the context of both the institutional source of the contributions and Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) goals.  Note that the CRC maintains an electronic bibliographic file of this entire database that can be exported in a format for uploading (e.g., into EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, or other bibliographic software) and provided to any CBED registrant upon request.

The value added by this compendium (relative to other indexed databases such as Google Scholar or Web of Science) is several-fold:

  1. The CRC will maintain an electronic bibliographic database that can be downloaded in a format appropriate for use by bibliographic software (e.g.  *.bib,*.enl, etc.) and this entire database is available upon request to any CBED registrant.
  2. Any publication listed in the collection will by definition have relevance to the Chesapeake ecosystem, as identified first by its nominator and confirmed by the CRC prior to uploading;
  3. Keywords for searching will include controlled language for type of institution represented by its authors. Specifically, codes will be included in keywords to signify authors from one (or more) of the following organizations:
    • (CBP-acad):  academic institution that partners with the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP); this will include not only the CRC members but also other institutions that contribute to the CBP partnership;
    • (CBP-fed): federal agency that partners with the CBP;
    • (CBP-NGO): non-government agency that partners with the CBP;
    • (CBP-state):  state agency that partners with the CBP;
    • (CBP-other): other organization (e.g. private or commercial group) that partners with the CBP
  4. Keywords for searching will include controlled language for CRC member institutions.
    Specifically, and in addition to being coded as “CBP-acad”, codes will be included in keywords to signify authors from one (or more) of the following CRC member institutions:

    • Johns Hopkins University (JHU)
    • Old Dominion University (ODU)
    • Penn State University (PSU)
    • Smithsonian Institution (SI),  with separate identifier available as additional keyword code for Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
    • University System of Maryland (USM), with separate identifier available as additional keyword code for 11 individual universities and colleges (BSU, CSU, FSU, SU, TSU, UB, UMBUMBC, UMCES, UMCP, and UMES)
    • Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS)
    • Virginia Tech (VT)
  5. Keywords for searching will include controlled language for the nature of the “management goal” (or goals) to which the publication relates. Specifically, codes will be included in keywords to signify relevance to one (or more) of the following management issues (also used in CBED):
    • Sustainable Fisheries (SF)
    • Vital Habitats (VH)
    • Water Quality (WQ)
    • Toxic Contaminants (TC)
    • Healthy Watersheds (HW)
    • Land Conservation (LC)
    • Public Access (PA)
    • Environmental Literacy (EL)
    • Stewardship / Community Inclusion (SC)
    • Climate Resiliency (CR)
    • Fostering Diversity (FD)
